OK, just had it assessed. Not suprisingly, very hard to get parts. Panel beaters have said $12-$14k to get fixed. Car will now be written off.

When I enquired with Famous Car Insurance they told me it was a good thing it was a single turbo, because they won't insure anyone under 25 with a twin turbo car.

Go figure.

Had a similar thing happen with my old ride when the bearing on one of the pulleys went and the serpentine belt snapped. The steering became really heavy, heat was up, and battery wasn't charging.
