Wondering what everyone has for rims. Have just purchased a set of rims with a bit of gutter rash and clear coat damage on the centre caps. Question is is the clear coat that important? From my research the clear coat makes the wheel a bit duller than pure polished rim but protects the rim from corrosion, etc. If I polish the rims I am tryign to decide whether or not to replace the clear coat. i think they will be shinier without the clear coat. Also what type of cleaner can you use on clear coat rims

Clear is paint, so clean it like you would paint.

Sand it back as much as you can, clean it up with high-grit paper to smooth it out, re-clear. Smile

Definitely replace clear coat! It protects the rim else your rim will discolour and go all yucky very very quickly.

I would only ever not clear coat if they were show rims and never ever saw the street.
