You have to remember with the plastic cogs that you can not move the seat rail manually with the motor still attached - If you do this then its a sure fire way to strip the cog once again..
That is so true....much if not everything about how well the replacement plastic seat cogs will last is how well they are installed. I have found you can wind it manually but you have to wind only half a turn each side of the seat rail at a time......its a slow boring process but it works without damage.
I stress again lining up the 2 sides of your seat rail perfectly when you install a new cog is the most important part of the install.... I also packed some rubber grease in my gearbox when I installed it.
My maths is rough but thats over 200 times so far with no probs. The reason for this is my Girlfriend is about 2 foot shorter than me.
I have only had one report so far of a replacement seat rail cog breaking and that was straight after it was installed. All the others I have sold I can only presume they are working well?

So bringing back an old thread but has anything ever come of this new cog design???? Just installed mine today and i managed to strip 2 f**king cogs, even with grease and making sure the seat rails were aligned as close as i could physically get them. I moved the seat and it just came to a stop on the inside rail of the drivers side seat, then all i heard was the noise of it stripping out. So should i order more cogs? or could there be another issue
with steel cogs comes an issue that plagues all car modifiers everywhere, the next weakest link.
if u upgrade this, something else becomes the weakest link, that will break, causing us to upgrade that, then, again, something else becomes the weakest link...and so on in that fashion.
plastic cogs are easy to replace, albeit time consuming...try again, make sure something else isnt damaged which is causing it to strip the gears, try installing the seats without the seats (just the rails/motors and controls) and run it and see wats going on, youll either find something else broken causing more strain on the cogs, or, a mis-alignment somewhere.
maybe try installing the seats and manually running them full forward/aft that way, there cant be any mis-alignment when you work the motors! _________________

Or I might get lucky and find a set of aftermarket rails to suit a set of recaros. Lol!
Have a look on Yahoo Auctions Japan, you can find Recaro rails to suit the JZS147 all over there. Here's the search I have favourited for Recaro rails.

Yeah ive spoken to jesse before and was about to buy a set and a few things came up so I couldn't get them. So might have to save my coinage and get some. Dam Christmas killed my savings lol!
Try again, i had similar issue installed new ones and it failed....forgot about them for 12 months then finally replaced again with new and cleaned out the housings 100% and checked the motors and the drive for the gear as 1 of the screws had a bit of a damage (metal screw that drives the gear was slightly damaged)

Correct. The only way I have had success with replacing cogs is fully removing the rails, then test moving them while plugged into the car but not bolted down to ensure everything was sliding correctly.
Further, metals cogs are not what you want, you want plastic ones and you need to realise they will not last forever, our cars are over 20 years old, the real problem is the design that makes them so hard to change compared to newer models that can have cogs changed with the seat still in place (nissans for example).
