digging up an old thread here, but I read in the first page that the 2JZ-Gte was in the Aristo before the Supra?

Coz I sometimes get mates saying that oh its a Supra wannabe (yes yes quite silly I know) but I'd like to know if the gte engine was used in Aristo before it went into the Supra?

hmm Confused

Their Supra is an Aristo wannabe, the 2J was released in the Mark IV JZA80 in 1993.

The 2J was in the Aristo in 1991, two years earlier Smile

The Supra is a tarted up Celica with an Aristo motor Razz

All good.

I dunno why there would really be Supra / Aristo rivelry. Both made with essentially the same driveline, therefore have the exact same power-producing capability, made by the same manufacturer.

Just in different chassis, a sporty 2 door which is a lighter (thus faster for same power), handles better, at the expense of room and practicality

And the Aristo has the room and practicality, at the expense of handling & weight Smile

We should all unite, against those inferior balsa-wood Nissans :p

well considering 90% of my mates know nothing about cars, i didnt even bother telling them about it when i got it, i waited till they saw it in person.....still didnt help

"what is it?"
"toyota aristo"
"a who?"
"import from japan, A-R-I-S-T-O, twin turbo, luxo sedan thing"
"?"
"also know as a lexus gs300"
"ah lexus....whats a gs300?"

then i took them for a drive up the coast in it....certainly impressed them....now they know what and aristo is

Technically speaking, you could use the thing about the Supra being a based on the Celica etc as it origionally was a Celica-Supra but of course it first came with the 2.8 litre 5m engine I believe. Then came the 7m and 1J and finally the 2J. So don't forget, even though, the Aristo was first with the 2j the MA70 was available with the 1J in the very late 80's early 90's.
