Fellow JZS147'ers...

I'd like your input on the visibility of the forums to non-registered members. And by non-registered members we mean guests, and search engines (Google for example).

I can understand that certain forums, say member rides, should be hidden from the public & search engnies. We don't want our cars, and potentially illegal mods listed for the rest of the world to find - not that anybody here would do that, Officer Wink

However, tech forums I think should be viewable, mainly for the purpose of having it crawled by search engines. Having a forum like this crawled & indexed by search engines will increase forum awareness when a new Aristo owner searches for "Aristo faults" or "Aristo ball joints", etc.

Please vote on this one & add comments where necessary...

We decided to have our Tech section only readable by registered members. My line of thought was, "least they can make the effort to sign up if they want to make use of our R&D" Very Happy

Some of sections are viewable, not readable, some are viewable and readable. Some are hidden until registration.

We've just had a bit of a change, as all were viewable only originally, but that also stops the searchbots.

im going members rides only. that way people that are just curious can browse through and see if they like the forum, and also can see if there's a meet to scope things out.

members rides, well i think having it hidden means the popo cant really see things that well at a glance, but they -could- just sign up. im more thinking on the lines of making them hidden from shady people with questionable motives.

but yeah, my 2c is if ur gonny hid anything, just make it the members rides section.

Yes people can sign up for members rides but its more so to keep it away from the googler. I could mod the site so that things are viewable to public but not search bots I guess.

I voted for members rides & meets to be hidden.

Agreed. Last thing you want is a patrol car turning up at an event to "randomly inspect" cars. This happened at the last Subaru cruise I went to. Mind you, there were about 200 cars there Smile

They can always sign up to find out, but at least we wont be advertising the events to Google Smile

hmm, because people can just sign up to look at stuff, why not just hide the cruises and members ride sections from search engines, and also make it ;that you have to sign up to see members rides?
