Hello, I just found this forum, and am very impressed.

I have had my 1996 Aristo since new, and brought it into Australia in 1998.
I believe that i was the first person in Australia to own one.

Anyhow, its a non turbo 2JZ-GE engine, I can get hold of twin turbos taken off a 2JZ-GTE engine. How much trouble is it to convert my engine into a twin turbo engine, is there much trouble, or can they simply bolt on?

Thanks

Haha, nice name. You probably would have been the first to own one. Also, probably the only single-owner Aristo in Australia.

Anything can be registered if it is a personal import, it just needs to meet the ADR requirements. The RAWS importation scheme formalises these ADR requirements. Cars cannot be imported unless they are RAWS compliant, fall under the "15" year rule, or are imported for race use. Personal imports fall under a different set of rules entirely in terms of importing, you have to have owned the car overseas for longer than a year I believe in order for it to be considered a personal import.

you are sorta right. but since i lived overseas, and owned it over there, i could ship it to australia without any problems as a personal import. I did everything myself to get it complianced. mine you back in 1998 they charge me $9000 import duty taxes to bring it into australia

Snap, ouch. Although back then it would have probably been considered a luxury car. The AUD wasn't exactly strong back then, so 4mil JPY was worth like what, 60k AUD, would have maybe hit luxury car tax too...

Totally different system now, 10% import duty and 10% GST.

there's a few topics on the supraforums about making the NA into a NA-T etc... there's nothing on here as yet as far as i know, so maybe pop over to Supraforums.com.au and search on those forums.. there's a few threads there i think..

but as someone said, i'd just buy a GTE front cut and go from there :p
You can only push the GE so far!

How much power are you wanting from the car? The turbo versions of cars usually have a range of internal differences to handle the increased power.

You might find it easier to buy a complete engine with turbos, loom, ECU, intercooler piping etc. or a front cut.
