mine is toyota badged, by my personal view is that they are a lexus. sure, they rolled off the factory in japan with toyota badges, but as mentioned thats because lexus wasnt around in japan back then.. if they are good enough to carry the lexus badge elsewhere in the world, then no doubt they are good enough to be called a lexus.
having said that, i always say to people that its a toyota =D

Same If they see the badges and go Oooh Lexus?... GS300? I'll say "yeh"... but if they ask what do i drive then i say it's a beautiful black Toyota Aristo.. then they inevitably go "what's that?" and I'll usually say something along the lines of "errmm...its an older Lexus GS300 with a supra engine" _________________

if mine comes with Lexus badging i wont mind for a while but ill end up de-badging it all anyways and keep the bogans, i mean brothers asking..."what the hell was that?"
seriously though, the whole Chev badge, Lexus badge thing is really only to entertain the people who realy couldnt care less about what ya driving but care just enough to know that the car with the Chev badge is cooler than the one with the cheap looking 6" Lion badge
but then again, you wouldnt debadge a Merc or BMW! ok, now im confused!

It's a Toyota, it was never designed to be for sale outside of Japan, launched 2 years before the GS and 2 years before the 2JZ found it's more famous home.
The L badge was only invented to sell luxury Toyotas to the fat stupid Americans (no offence meant to any fat stupid Americans)
That's my .02 of the queens finest pounds
Correct. Lexus is just a rebadged Toyota that came about mainly to crack the American market and to compete with the big Euro badges such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes. American's have a big stigma about buying Jap cars, they don't like non-domestic on the whole, unless it's european and then it's exotic and classy, and lo and behold Lexus was born

Luxury EXport to the US.
Wiki says that's a common belief in Aus, but Japan has always had a different 'official' story behind the origins of the name. Whether wiki is right or not - up to you.
Can't deny that that's really what the brand was for though.. luxury export cars, starting of course in 89 with the LS400 in the US.
I challenge that the Aristo was never designed to be a Lexus. I think it was always designed to be one of the model. _________________

I object to the bull shit call, show me a Lexus GS300 with a 2JZ-GTE fitted from factory.
Want to see my Members Ride? There's one right there. Heck there's one in your own garage!
What's your problem? They're the exact same car. The sooner people get over that the better.
Yes I admit i drive a lexus. I also say i drive a toyota. That's cos it's the same thing!!
Just 'cos you take an MA70 Supra and put a 2JZ in it doesn't suddenly make it a JZA70 Supra - it's still an MA70.
Putting a GTE or a GE in the car makes no difference, it's an 'option' that was only available in Japan. Like the Vibrating mirrors or the fender pole. It's still a GS300. It's still an Aristo.
The pure and simple difference is what you prefer the people to look at you to think. Either "omg rich guy" or "oo nice toyota", or wat most of us deep down really want "WTF is that?!?" _________________
