Sorry if this is redundant, couldn't see it addressed anywhere. Can you swap the globes out with crystal vision to get rid of the ghey looking orange or is it an orange insert that can't be removed? (car is on the boat so I can't check).

The orange is an insert. They sell the converted ones in Japan, I guess somebody pulls out the amber frame & replaces it with clear. I've yet to pull lights apart to see exactly how its done, my car come with clear & HID so no need to touch.

Should be able to split them like the soarer lights, I'll have a crack at it and post a tutorial when I get organised.

They are fine so long as you clean the seam properly and use a decent compound - I've seen people use gorilla snot (silastic) and that doesn't work very well at all.
