ok just an update on some more lights I converted over

T5 x1 in ashtray (had to dismantle it a little to get to the bulb)
T5 x1 in ignition keyhole light surround
T5 x6 in climate control (had to pull apart the original lights and the t5 bulbs and "make" them fit
I had the twist in sockets which would have worked but the t5 bulbs I had were too long and didn't
fit in)
T5 x1 lcd display in climate control (same as above but the socket was even smaller and the twist in type wouldn't have fitted)

I also installed a factory toyota cd/mp3 player from a 07 corolla but it has orange display
so I ordered some smd diodes and will solder them on to make it match the rest of the dash
when it is all done I will take some pics and post them up

Funny you should mention that!

I am in the process of doing this one. I have taken some pictures so I will post them up soon.

I have had a fricken flu bug/virus for the last couple of days, so I have pretty much been in bed all weekend!

I bought the kit in blue off Import Monster and I think it cost me around $80- or something for 6 globes in total. These are the the lights that light up green on the aircon panel etc when you turn your headlights on.
There are two things I am trying to work through. (When I am well.) Firstly, I didn't get the 7th globe which as described above in the thread that is a smaller size. This is for the LCD display. For the time being, I have removed the green plastic 'condom'. It doesn't look too bad. I would have still liked to have got a blue replacement. The other thing I haven't checked yet is replacing the Yellow coloured switch lights. I am not sure yet how to get to these.

I will post more in the next day or so.

Chris

Ok. I think I will have to be content with the leds as they are for the time being. As you can see from the pictures, the other lights are basically fixed LED's.

As for the LCD, I am not sure if I would go for a blue light anyway, maybe just a brighter white light.
I am also thinking that if I had a choice I would try white instead of blue anyway. The reason that I went for the blue was that my head unit had blue lights. We'll see how it goes.

Fire away with any questions lads! I've been to the doctor and I'm feeling much better!!!

Image Shack seems to be playing up a bit. I will post some more pics when I can.

Chris

so how many LEDs do you need to change the centre lights?

and how exactly did you get to them to remove them?

Nice pics I wish I had taken some when I did the conversion
I looked at doing those "fixed" leds myself but not sure what size they are
when I find some I will add them to the list.
I have an all white conversion but will probably go for the blue leds
for the fixed ones just to set it off

OK.

Maybe cos I was sick, I didn't explain myself too well. So here goes.

As most of you may know, I have swapped most of the interior lights out for LED's. I have been unofficially named the king of the LED by some, although I realize that there are also other people here that have tried a couple of things themselves and shared their knowlwedge. I have pinched some of those ideas of course. Very Happy

I will do another how to guide I guess as well.

This is what I did.

The main reason for doing this mod is that my Pioneer head unit mainly glows 'blue' and the rest of the console shines mainly 'green'. Given that my dash looks nice and shiney...why not finish it all off?
Go to Import Monster and get yourself either the white or blue LED kit for the climate control unit. It is fairly easy to find. The bloke sells it all of the time from what I can see. Be patient, I got it for the starting price of $45-. I think it worked out being around $70- delivered to my door after postage, handling and the Monster took his cut. Not bad really. BTW: expect to pay more up front and then get a refund as it is processed. It is hard for them to estimate the price correctly in the begining.
The so called 'kit' simply consists of 6 x LED's to replace the standard globes that illuminate the unit when you turn your parkers or headlights on.
As the standard globes have green 'condoms' on them, the unit lights up green. If you don't wish to spend any money, simply remove the 'condoms'. (just don't get yourself pregnant.) Very Happy You should get a white light. I didn't try it myself, but that is the idea.

I will do a proper write up in the how to section.

tomee it's not that hard to remove
all you need to do is
remove the gear selector knob and surround (hidden screws under cover)(rest pulls up)
remove ashtray panel (just pulls out)
remove vents (just pulls out)
remove stereo/climate controll (10mm bolts)
remove climate controll from bracket (screws)
dismantle climate controll
change lights
put back toghether
enjoy Very Happy

You don't need to remove the gear selector knob?
Confused

nice work on the dash pod.

I would have probably made it a little lower and smoother (only one larger bulge, instead of 2 smaller ones).

Ok so let me get this right...

Obviously I see you can replace those bigger bulbs...

But you cannot replace those smaller ones (the selectors for the climate control settings)? Such as the 8 that are in a line across the bottom and some random ones on the right hand side of the unit?

If I replaced the bigger ones blue, I would like to make them all blue.

Radio8ctive's photos look good! Love the clear dash, it shits all over mine which are missing lights, etc. lol.

Has anyone got/seen pics of blue LED's used behind the actual dash part? Also I would love to see what the blue LED's look like behind the climate control

thanks dan ,skeez , 260QK

I will try and do those "fixed LEDs " next can't be too hard
only hard part will be trying to find them
if worst comes to worst I'll buy normal ones and just file them
down to fit. Cool

I do have a mate with blue everything and it looks pretty good
I'll see if I can catch up with him but he has crashed his car Sad
and I might not be able to get the pics for a little while

Ah alright cool.... I just dont want it cheap looking, if I go blue. The car came with blue LED's in each front footwell and also under the front seats pointing backwards, creating a blue glow for the rear floor. Im not usually one for that sort of look, but I admit it looks cool so im keeping it. So I think having blue lights on the dash, etc. will go well with it.

But yeah, im not really one for rice... So I want to make sure it looks ok first.

I actually work at Toyota and I just "found" a brand new out of a corolla
but they are the same in prado, hilux and alike
This one is pretty cool it has a 3.5mm jack like you said for ipod
and it plays mp3s and displays text
only downside is no sub out but I have the factory sub working
of a line level convertor to the rear speaker outputs to run the sub
but yeah I think it matches the dash real well
