Black being possibly the most painful colour on a car it appears to need washing almost daily. with that in mind we got the waterless kit and within 1 hour the entire car was cleaned, by my wife ofcourse. this was done only with the liquid in the waterless detailer bottle and nothing else. i almost fell over when i went out to check it out. thought there would be scratches galore and lumps of fly and bird crap the kit couldnt get off, but no. nice and sparkly. the process is basically dust the doirt off with this brush, then spray the areas then wipe on and wipe off. not bad for $54 form repco. when you consider the fuel to get to the car wash, the waiting and having to pump coins into a machine then chamois off all the water then the fuel back home this is a good alternative. theres around 10 washes in a kit and when its done just buy more waterless detailer, $20 ish.

imo that stuff is only good unless your car is lightly covered with dust...

if its dirtier than that, then you're dreaming... it will come up with scratches galore.

the best water saving car wash ive used is Optimum Car Wash, its a two bucket wash method.
one bucket with solution diluted with water, then a 2nd bucket for rinsing your wash mitt.

bring your car out in the sun next time and have a look at where the sun hits, ill guarantee there will be 'cobwebbing' and swirling caused from it if your car was moderately dirty.

im a hobby detailer Very Happy
heres some pics of some details i have done in the past couple of months

workmates BMW:

see the swirling on the top left...

then after a pass with optimum polish...

side shot of it after wax

done

heres a legacy GT i did.
after the bonnet had been polished with Menzerna

before passenger door, you can see the cobwebbing

after polish

side after polish

boot

door

one of my fav shots

done

hope you enjoyed Very Happy

Very nice! Cool

I'm also highly sceptical about waterless washes.

my paint is great, but it has a LOT of light surface scratches on it. Im just affraid on how to clean/polish/wax it.

I wash it now with meguires next tech or something? (its in a blue sprakly bottle) and i have the tech wax also.

Did you use a buffer to get the results above tomee? and if so, what size and what rag thingo on it was it?

Im paranoid to use the buffer.. dont want put a decent scratch in it like i did with my old car (i think the mop thing i was using was a little old and had crustys on it and i had massive round swirl marks on the boot.. but wasnt visible due to it being a silver car.. black i cant afford to take chances!)

i use a rotary, as your get faster better results than a random orbital buffer...
but rotarys take practice, you can easily burn paint with it, so you have to be careful and tape off any edges.

i use 6" buffing pads with varying aggressiveness of the pad depending on how hard the paint is.
i have like 13 buffing pads, all different kinds for different jobs.

i have a random orbital you can borrow to use on your car. they are much safer for learners and you cant burn paint with them.

we havent really polished the thing yet or have had time waiting for a detailer to do it, but the package seems to fit the bill. i am not all too worried about cobwebbing etc as its always parked in the elements. if the car had been resprayed recently and needed to maintain a high level of care, that would be a different story. i see your opinion is different from a detailer perspective but from an end user perspective, if it does the job...Mequiars FTW... yeah i have a cheapish orbital buffer that ive used before.

Are you meant to put the compound on then apply with hand, then buff it off, or use the orbital buff to put it on and take it off (but just using a different head on it? (and what head!) thats the part that im most confused about.

i apply the compound on the pad, then spread it onto the paint.
then work the compound in with the buffer until the compound is worked in.
then i remove it by using a microfibre cloth to buff off the residue.

there are different kinds of pads, aggressive, polishing and finishing

if the paint needs alot of correction, then you would use the aggressive pads on the paint, and then go over it again with a polishing, then finishing.

for the cars above i did, i mainly used just a polishing pad, and then maybe a finishing pad to top things off

If you have around 3 days to do you car, try Detailing Clay.

Body work feels like velvet afterwards. Mini Aaron

As for carwashes, Mine gets the bucket of Wash & Wax on the lawn and hose off

thought id show some other cars i have done...

BMW 330i:

car was immaculate!
paint was in very good condition, just some light swirling . cobwebbing.

colour was a very dark metallic green / blue

pictures arent the best.

products used:
optimum no rinse
meguiars #80
meguiars #21
pinnacle souvern

gave it a wash with optimum no rinse and bought it into the garage to inspect under lights. taped up the trim.
gave it a quick clay, but the cars paint was pretty clean, clay bar was clean.

here is the hood after a wash

tried menzerna po73cp on a portion of the bonnet, took out 80% of the swirls.
decided to try po106ff on another portion.
for some reason the 106ff only removed about 60% of swirls.

i then switched pads, and moved onto #80
that tended to finish what i was after.

here is the bonnet after a couple of passes

rear quarter after 2 passes.. can see my car on teh reflection

some light cobwebbing on the rear pillar

one pass of #80

boot done with 2 passes

another bonnet shot. this section of the hood got po106ff, then 3 x #80

polished off the whole car, side mirror and door handles got scratch-x on them.

here is the bonnet with #21 applied

then topped with beauty wax souvern..
finished

great depth

love the LED's

me shot

overall i was pretty happy with the end result.

RS Liberty:

this car had been resprayed about 5 years ago in the original burgandy from factory

car needed a full clay, this car had alot of stuck on contaminants. i had to go over some parts twice with a clay bar thats how bad it was.

we bought it into the garage under some halogens to get an idea of how swirled it was.

the top part of this pic, i tried some meguiars speed glaze, but this is how it came out after a clay.

i tried some different products to see what needed to get the job done.
started out with megs speed glaze on a polishing pad with the rotary at 3 setting.
wasnt aggressive enough. i then moved onto meguairs dual action cleaner polish with polishing pad, not cutting it either.
thought id give poorboys SSR 2.5 with a cutting pad a try, that was a much better combo on this paint.
althought the paint was relatively hard, as i needed to go over each panel twice to remove swirling.

here is the bonnet with two passes of SSR2.5 on a cutting pad. still not entirely perfect

boot

the front left quarter, you can see all the swirling here under the lights

hit it twice... goneski!

after removing the defects, i went over the car with poorboys polish with carnuaba blue via machine.

then topped off with poorboys nattys blue by hand also

finished product.. pics dont show it as i had to resize them, but this thing was glossy as! had depth aswell.. that and also becasue there was no sun!

can see my old car behind his Smile

GX Liberty:

cars paint was relatively smooth already, no clay bar needed.

gave it a quick wash with QEW, ready for polishing.
polsihed with #83 on a megs cutting pad via rotary
then menzerna po73cp on a megs polishing pad via rotary
hand waxed with NXT

inspected the paint, and it had alot of deep scratches Suprised
alot of them i didnt get out

here is a before pic of the hood

tried the SSr 2.5 with cutting pad combo, same as tim's car.
although it worked ok, on this paint, it becae real stubborn to buff off.
pic of it worked on with SSR 2.5... can see some scratches i didnt get out with 2 passes

i then switched to meguairs #83 with a cutting pad.

before pic of the right quarter

hit it with #83 twice, and just look at the gloss and wetness now

drivers side door. as you can see alot of scratches and swirling

two passes

random shot of the rear door after polished

now onto the boot. before pic

now after

finished shot, doesnt look soo crash hot here Sad
no sun, and a white car
