Would be nice if it looked in a bit better condition.

Anyway, I think I am after more a T58 size. No point going over board. I think around 400rwkw is what I am after.

Ive got a 700hp GT35R on my Skyline (1.06 exhaust housing so the big one). reckon this would be just about perfect on a 2JZGTE.

or even a T04Z with 0.80 rear housing

But a GT35R on around 24-25psi will make 500rwhp through an auto on a 2JZGTE, thats farking heaps for a cruiser Very Happy.

T78 is a crap turbo. Had one in my Soarer and it made plenty of power, but the delivery was like flicking a switch.

Boost goes on, boost goes off, boost goes on, boost goes off.

ext gate is ftw though Very Happy

Yeah I'm surprised by people who put on old skool turbos. If you get a newer turbo you'll likely get a heap more power, without any major increase in lag.

Because it costs a heap more to do stuff properly…. Aristo’s are cheap so most people will cheap out on mods (seen it time and time again), this can be done to some degree but once your looking at aftermarket turbo’s the rest of the setup really needs to be done.

Take for instance my ‘cheap’ turbo upgrade I’ve just done on my skyline:

GT3540IW - $1800
4” dump pipe to cat - $400
Haltech E8+3 bar map sensor - $1800
MSD DIS4 - $700
MSD blaster coils - $400
Custom leads - $100
Injector upgrade - $500
Fuel reg - $300
Oil and coolant lines - $300
Peterson catch can & lines - $200

$6500 outlay so far…. Not including labour if you cant do yourself.

Then there’s Manifolds, Intercooler pipe changes, turbo intake, air filer, fuel pump/s, radaitor upgrade, power steering cooler, oil cooler, tuning time etc.

With the mods I’ve done so far to my Aristo I’m probably making close to 320rwhp now for the total outlay of $730 from stock, or roughly 5% of the cost of making 500rwhp on a 6-cylinder from my costings above (once all the other systems have been upgraded, cooling, fuel, tuning etc)...

Then there is the $3500 you will need to spend on the Aristo automatic Trans to allow it to cope with 500+ rwhp in a heavy car… if you want it to be reliable that is.... I know i would.... So now we're looking at $10,000 outlay + labour (if not doing yourself).

Suddenly the stock twins with a bit of boost (making a reliable 320rwhp) start to look more and more attractive…..

Ive got a GT3540 (1.06) on a nissan quad cam 3L, its not that laggy at all.

a mate also has a 3540 (1.06) on a 2JZ, its not much laggier than TTC (if at all)..... but comes on like a lightswitch.

thats all well and good, but if your wanting a turbo that still has some in it and are wanting upto and beyong 400rwkw i wouldnt go the gt35r there a great turbo, but at upto 400rwkw they start to max out
im looking more to the gt42r or the garrett t51r also know as the GT45R which you can getwith the 0.91 rear!
full boost is around 4500rpm so it makes it nice to cruise around in.. but also power when you need it
i wouldnt bother with the old t78 type as has been said there just old and tired and there are alot of newer turbos around as stated for a really good price

cheers jeff Smile

I wouldn't think there would be much lag with a T66??

the US Supra guys swear by the 67mm turbo's (of most brands) to be the size perfect for the 2J and street use ...
