hey guys,
i saw this on VSC forums and thought it would be a cool thing to throw up here in case anyone is interested in doing it to their Aristo. Credit goes to BIGGZ JZS147 on that forum for the writeup!
1.take off your window trims.
sorry, mines were already off so dont got instructions for that.
2.spray or apply a paint remover on the trim.i like using this product.
3.after you applied the remover, wait for about 10 minutes or so.and the paint should wrinkle up like this.
4.use something to remove the old paint off.i used a green scrubber.
it should look like this after the paint was removed
5.after that,i sanded it with 600 grit and 1000 grit just to make it smooth and free from imperfections.sorry no pic
6.use a metal polish and a buffing wheel and start polishing.
7.it should be shiny like this
8.and you're done!
it didn't come out as shinny as i wanted it,but its only because i didnt take enough time sanding them and my cordless drill died.so im gonna re-do that one.and dont mind the pillars,im not gonna polish those.im having them painted black.now i've got 3 more to do.
yeah this has been on my to do list for a while, but keep the pillars black.
started toying around with this mod to the front windscreen trim _________________
im still keen on doing this, just too scared that ill break something trying to work it out. looked at the door trim removal photos on this forum, dosent look like the window trim clips onto anything on the inner door...
any chance someone can post up a shot of the inner side of the window trim? might help work out where the screws are and where they can be accessed from... _________________
We are all in this dream world... waiting to go back
be very very careful when removing the outside trim, the stock clips are weak which is why most aristos have door trims that dont match up _________________

those wheels probably aren't that much, i think they're AME's. email someone like jesse streeter (dartsun75@gmail.com) or dan wiseman (wiseman_dan@hotmail.com).
dunno if you guys know,bu this is my DIY.so heres a little update.
heres what they look like on the car
*WARNING*
Do not do this mod, unless you plan on polishing it once every week.its not aluminium so the shine gets kinda dull.but they look great when done.

That was one thing I was worried about. I might just have these chrome plated instead for easier mantainence

Sorry for the Threadomancy - does anyone have a how-to or tips on removing these things, and has anyone bought new clips from Toyota?? Mine are popped on a few doors and I figure while they're off I'll get 'em chromed too - selling my visors should make up some of the cost.
