Tyre shop can legally sell you anything they want as long ad they don't fit anything that isn't suited to the vehicle. I used to work at west state Tyres and they did it all the time sell an under load rated tyres (especially for mini trucks as a ute has a high load index) but customer would pay for them , then they give them to the customer and not bolt them on the car. It's a wrong practice but they make money from it and most customers don't care and just want the wheels. It's the same with fitting 20's on non hsv commodores you need a 225/30/20 to fit em under the struts there's no way that is wife enough nor does it have the right load index, but same scenario here's your wheels and tyres mate bolt them on yourself. And that's how Tempe gets away with it.

Whether it's the buyers responsibility or not - Like you said it's a wrong/incorrect practice.

I dare say the vast majority of people out there do not understand load ratings, especially young people with a very limited budget who just want to make their car look good for cheap. It is incredibly irresponsible for an organisation to not check this before supplying the product.

What happens if a tyre splits at high speed, the person loses control and goes off the road, killing themselves and the people in their car?

It is a very important warning that rhetto and the other guys have posted and I for one certainly appreciate it.

As an aside, I'm not having a go at you personally peanutsofmx, I understand your points and the problem clearly lies higher up with regards to laws and regulations in place for these businesses.
