My radiator is about to give up on me. Had it flushed a while ago and it was looking pretty bad. The top tank is also ready to crack. Since summer is about to hit and ive recently come across a heating issue, im starting to look for a replacement item.
Obviously i can get a supra top tank and bottom tank thrown on for around $300 (already got a quote) but id rather get something with a little better cooling. Having a 30mm'ish core really isnt enough.
So far ive found the following:
PWR, PWR0837 - $840
Extremely nice design and proven to work well, though $840 is a little out of my price range.
Predator intercooler and Radiator kit - $1300
ASI (ebay cheapy), 52mm specifically designed for the JZA80 supra - $480
ASI (ebay cheapy), 52mm custom made radiator (dimensions look like it will fit)- $250
Has anyone used any of the above and can comment on their quality, or have a better choice/price for me? Obviously the last is the cheapest, but the quality and fitment might yet to be seen. Next week i will be running around town looking for custom radiator prices.
I have seen Dazwaaah's race radiator's set-up, and for the price on shipping, id be better off getting one locally made.
cheers!

Last freaked with by sbyder on Tue Aug 14, 2007 4:47 am; freaked 1 time in total
Called ARE cooling, they want $1000, i laughed and hung up.
Called some other brisbane alloy radiator joints, they recon $750-$900 for a custom jobby.
Called PWR and they are $840 for the supra radiator, which is better than i thought.
Still waiting on email responses from 5 guys, inluding 3 ebay sellers.
Just so everyone knows, my heating issues are:
Drive in the cold, no problems.
Drive in the heat of the day, temp gets up to 95 for a few minutes, then rises quickly to 110 at which point i immediately pull over and get pissed off before putting around 400ml of water in the radaitor.
Why i think its a clogged radaitor:
i)No water leaks from anywhere.
ii)only gets hot when its a hot day
iii)the overflow bottle has signs of overflowing when it overheats, ie: theres coolant marks flowing down the sides but evaporates before i lift the bonnet.
iv)if i switch the car off when its at 110-115 degrees there is no water pressure noises which you would hear if the coolant was leaking somewhere.
v)new thermostat and waterpump and 90% of the coolant pipes around the motor.
Of course Im getting a pressure test done tomorrow just to be sure and before i spend any money but all fingers are pointing to a clogged radiator getting hot, then spewing coolant out the overflow bottle.
Cheers all

its really up to you which way you go... just be very careful, as they really do need to be specifically made up to match the shape... i think my core is around 40mm... but u must remember that with the thicker core, it pushes everything closer to the serpentine belt, as you've seen in my thread, my one had to be adjusted to fit, one side you have the standard cooler piping, (im pretty sure u run fmic anyway) and the other side you have the hydrollic fan lines...
there is also the fact of the oil cooler for the tranny.... i remember you're running an aftermarket ATF cooler anyway, but remember if u just run the aftermarket by itself... you will need airflow for it to be effective, which is why i got my oil cooler built into the new one...
supra's dont run the hydrollic fan so they dont have to be tapered in... but hang on.. i think you're running thermo's arent you?
so after all that... it doesnt matter hahahahhahahahahahahahah
but i love my radiator, no problems with heat, as it has never gone above the 3rd dash on the temp guage.. (no the guage isnt broken)
a new alloy rad, with no debree stuck inbetween the air con condenser and rad, with new toyota long life coolant works a fkn treat!!! _________________
yep, ive already converted to twin thermos and a supra water pump
Im also running a tranny cooler seperately because eventually i knew id convert to a manual style alloy radaitor. It has plently of air flow thanks to my front bar and some piping.
My only issue is to find a radiator that has the tapered or cut-outs on the bottom so it fits. The radiator and fan mounts can be easily made up with a few brackets. Another thing is to also find one thats not too wide as it has to fit between the rails. _________________

Mine stays cool as in Brissy weather, ive recently had a new top tank fitted & had the core unblocked..... so dont reckon i'll need to touch cooling again for a while.
If you need a radiator to send off, ive got a stocker with a fucked header tank you can have. _________________
after searching around the PWR unit seems to be the most beneficial in relation to fitment, flow capacity and looks
I really cant see why the supra designed ebay cheapy is soo much more expensive than the other ebay model shown. I cant see an extra $230 worth of "extras" on the supra model.
I have a mate who's trying to get a special mates rate price on the PWR. If i can get it for $600 or less, i'll grab it, otherwise the ebay $250 unit will be my choice, once i get confirmations on dimensions, grrr, stupid ebay sellers not responding to emails
Ill keep you all updated.

well after searching high and low ive come up with one solution.... get one from interstate and have it sent up. Thanks to Dazwaaah for leaving his old radiator at Race Radiators they can make me one up similar to yours for the same price. I need it before the end of next week so i dont mind paying that same even though mine doesnt require a auto cooler or mounting tabs (i got thermos).
Fingers crossed i'll see it before thursday next week!
Thanks again Dazwaaah, you're a legend, and you didnt even know it! _________________

hey guys, i just bought one of those cheap asi ones, they have three or four different ones that say they are just for universal custom fit. so i just picked the one that had the outlets and dimentions closest to our standard ones, also got one 16inch thermo to bolt onto it and the same oil cooler as you guys showed in the pics above for my trany, the quality of the rad is pretty good really and it arrived within a week. gunna start fitting it tonight or tomorrow, i`ll let you`s know how it all go`s.
hey , once i`ve taken the hydrolic fan and hoses out do i just leave the pump where it is acting as an idler pully, so that my belt is the right tension or will the pump seize running with no oil in it???
i would assume that you disconnect the line that runs to the pump, but undoing the nut... theres a hole through the nut, so im thinking that once you take the line out, the bolt will tighten all the way down... _________________
